Thank you for viewing today's web and our our topic is 4 + 1 options for BSE candidates induce engineering. Masters programs for Bachelor science candidates in the Pratt School of engineering.
I'm Susan Brown and I serve as admission advisor for Duke. Undergraduates interested in practice for plus one programs.
First, let's talk briefly about the Masters programs available in Pratt. The Master of Science is a traditional engineering degree that includes 10 courses in a topic like bio medical civil environmental electrical and computer or mechanical engineering material science.
But this is a non thesis options are available in some Department offer project options as well. The Master of Engineering Management is a degree that began at Duke in 1997 and this program students take 4 core classes and marketing finance management and intellectual property in business law engineering management. Students can take electives in any graduate engineering, discipline offered at Duke in the Ms program but more often than not. They tend to take electives and engineering management with electric tracks like customer experience in product design data analytics and machine learning.
Operations and supply chain management product management technology development and commercialization and technology founders and innovators. Students may also create a custom track by choosing classes among all these electrodes or any engineering discipline that Duke offers an internship is required as well as 2 cent Masters of seminar and workshop.
The Master of Engineering is much like a hybrid of the other two. It began in 2010 and teachers features 2 core courses and business fundamentals and management, plus 8 versus the very same courses Master of Science. Students take in a variety of disciplines, including by medical engineering. Civil engineering computational mechanics and scientific computing electrical and computer engineering, environmental engineering. Mechanical engineering material science and engineering photonics, an optical Sciences risk engineering a new track.
And finish your technology or fintech, an internship is required as well.
The Master of Science program is a great option. If you have an interest in research. Whether you seek her career in research environment war. Additional preparation for a doctoral program. Many Ms students go on to pH D programs. But others work in industry in areas like technology development or product design. The Ms program allows you to gain experience working on interdisciplinary teams to gain practical research experience. Those opportunities to Co author published research and to present to professional peers. The Master of Science is administered through to Graduate School and that's an important distinction when it comes to 4 + 1.
Students typically complete the Master of Science degree and 3:00 to 4:00 semesters.
The Master of Engineering Management includes 4 core management courses and marketing finance management and intellectual property and business law.
So, just then choose 4 electives in any engineering discipline, but again, most used to focus on areas and engineering management, including customer experience in product design data. Analytics and machine learning operations and supply chain management product management technology development and commercialization in our new founders invented technology. Founders innovators track, which is designed for students looking to be the next big entrepreneur or drive. New products in an existing organization founder students identify problems develop solutions prototypes in creative startup strategy.
Selected students made then pitch to investors as part of a founders fellowship.
An internship is required and so is a robust seminar and workshop series. Seminars feature speakers who reinforced professional development themes emphasize lifelong learning and encourage student engagement. These students these sessions really provide students, the opportunity to interact with industry leaders experience business managers. Engineers contributors another business. Engineering experts workshops focus on several themes every semester, including self awareness global awareness leadership and collaboration and communication.
Engineering management can be completed in one year by taking 4 classes in each of two semesters, and completing the internship this summer before the program so it's possible to leave Duke with both of BSE Anonymi M degree in 5 years without being A4 Plus, One candidate. However, Engineering Management is run by the private school of engineering and is the only program that allow students to pay back credit instead of the semester. That means any course you take as an undergrad can reduce the number of courses. You need to take in your 5th year and therefore reduce the amount of tuition you pay.
The Master of Engineering program features 2 core courses and business fundamentals in management, plus 8 elective split between Department Department disciplinary or cross disciplinary requirements and technical electives in a concentration area. The split varies between disciplines. But all require an internship again. You can focus on bio medical engineering. Civil engineering computational mechanics and scientific computing electrical and computer engineering, environmental engineering. Mechanical engineering material science and engineering photonics an optical Sciences risk.
Risk engineering and a new track in financial technology or fintech inv intact. The aid electric horses are divided among 4 quart financial technology courses. One Financial technology capstone course and 3 electives and attract tailored to your goals. The technology track allows you to develop fantac products and services using tools such as machine learning Blockchain and quantitative financial analysis of the technology management. Track prepares you to lead fintechs teams and projects through course work in areas it's just product management customer driven innovation.
And the evolving regulatory landscape students typically take 3 semesters to complete this program and complete the summer internship between years. One and 2. This program is also run by the Pratt School of engineering.
Here's the chart again just so you can see how the degrees compare.
Let's dive into what makes a student eligible for 4 plus. One typically Duke Undergrads have free course openings in their senior year through AP credit summer school or overloading you might have one free opening in each semester of your senior year where you may have 2 openings in the spring semester only Aziz Example Shay.
4 + 1 students use those open course lots to take graduate engineering courses that map to the grad degree. They want and then transfer. Those grad courses into their grad record to satisfy graduate degree requirements, lessening the time to degree to typically just one more year at Duke.
How many open slots do you need to make 4 plus one work?
Master of Science, 4 + 1 works only if you have 2 open course lots in spring semester of your senior year.
Engineering management 4 + 1 works best if you have between one and 4 open slots in your senior year fall or spring semester. Master of engineering works best if you have between 2:00 and 4:00 open slots in your junior or senior year.
Why the difference? The Master of engineering engineering management and master of engineering are run by the practical of engineering and therefore plus ones are designed with maximum student flexibility Master of Science is run by deuce Graduate School, which has a more rigid structure for 4, plus one, but all are great options for Duke Undergrads.
You may only apply for MS-4 plus one in the fall of your senior year for provisional admission in the spring of your senior year. Students are matriculate eed. That means formally enrolled in the spring of senior year and dual enrolled as both an undergraduate and graduate student in that semester.
You may apply for engineering management or the Master of engineering in the spring over your junior year for admission and fall of your senior year fall of your senior year for admission in spring of your senior year over spring over your senior year for admission followed your 5th year, your matriculate eed and summer term. One of your 5th year and you remain in undergraduate for all for undergraduate years as you're never dual enrolled.
For any of these programs you pay undergrad tuition for 4 years and then pay grad tuition in your 5th year.
For him as the time to applies rigid and it makes it simple for me. I'm an image flexibility leads to confusion here my chips.
If you want to take horses under each ERMGMT or Meng. You need to apply for admission before the deadline for the term in which you want to take the classes. This is especially true because all of these courses are grad only and you'll need to permission number to take them.
Similarly, if you want to know you're admitted before you take up your free time with grad engineering courses. A suggest you follow the same guidelines apply for admission before the deadline for the semester. You plan to take the courses example. If you want to take the courses and fall of your senior year applied by the fall deadlines while a junior.
Some students need a bit more time to bring up their GPA or they may be juggling a job search. They choose to take departmental courses before being admitted in the hopes their GPA will increase or that the course content would be valuable. Either way, they typically applies latest possible by the fall deadline in the spring of their senior year for admission in the fall of their face here for any of those timelines, you select summer term one in your 5th here for your admission term that's the term in which will become a graduate student.
I'd like to talk about how the grad courses, you take as an undergrad are used for the Masters program for the Master of Science only courses taken in the spring of your senior year as part of your graduate transcript. Remember your dual enrolled will count or the Ms degree. This is rigid but it is neat and clean you have an undergraduate record and a graduate record and as long as you register for the course in the right record the system works.
For Engineering Management Master of Engineering is a little bit more complicated.
EGRMTMT&MENG or grad only designated courses so you can take those only after you're admitted to me. Amore image program, with the permission number because undergraduates can take grad courses and BMECEC and memes. You can take departmental courses anytime during your undergraduate program. But there's a caveat that I'll get to in a minute. You transfer those grad courses to me, Amore Image Program. Once you're BSE is complete, usually involve your 5th year. Note that GPA for those courses stays on your undergrad record and they appear in your grad record as transfer credit.
Here's the caveat graduate courses cannot be used for any part of your undergraduate degree if you want to transfer them to your mom or Image Records.
Courses may only count towards 1 degree.
I'd like to say that again graduate courses can't be used for any part of your undergrad record if you want to transfer them to your anymore image record courses may only count towards 1 degree. That means in order to move grad record courses into your grad record. The grad courses cannot count for your major your second major minor your certificate or any of the 34 credits required to completely undergraduate degree. The courses you plan to transform must be used only for transferred to the graduate program.
So why consider A4 plus one program aside from the chance to say it do for one more year. Masters degree is increasingly being seen as a requirement in many industries and completing it in just one more year is pretty fantastic. We have a fantastic career services team that offers highly comprehensive career support to all of our students, including individual career coaching sessions and workshops on topics, including resume and clever letter critique job search strategies mock interviewing and anything else related to career.
The rear seat services team also coordinates the number of on campus recruitment events such as night with industry. Taylor teach discipline techconnect roundtables an employer information sessions, while employee relations team connects with employees to increase interest in recruiting our students. Students continue to have access to do's career connections database and alumni come back for networking events in career fairs. Masters graduates continue to have access to the career team for several years after graduation. So you may use them not only for the first job after Duke but maybe even the next one.
I encourage you to view our master square outcomes on our data visualization tool with years of data, including companies position titles locations in areas of study. Here's a TinyURL to help you get there, but warning don't try to view this on your Phone. It's best views viewed on the laptop or a large tablet. You'll be able to take boxes to add or remove populations to drill down to specific programs and discipline or use the search box to search for companies or position titles click on a map location to see how many alumni reported jobs there.
The data visualization visualization tool is for all Masters candidates. What about 4 plus. One specifically since 2014, four plus ones have joined a bunch of great companies and this pie chart breaks down industry outcomes.
Master students also benefit from phenomenal support student support that starts with the Department specific Masters coordinator and includes the career team covered before graduate communications industry cultural programs team? Who provides opportunities to develop communication skills in writing or presentations as well as language services for international students. Other resources include a comprehensive orientation where you could likely lead the campus store. But it has a lot of other valuable content, including special onboarding for international students ton of student activities and social events plus.
You already benefit from the Duke Network, but in Masters program will expand that network.
Will also give you life additional lifetime friendships master students fully immerse themselves in life at Duke from hanging out in a River to social events holiday activities, relaxing on the quad and of course, Duke basketball.
And you may know Durham, but think about it if you've only lived on Dukes campus. While at Duke. Graduate students typically live off campus and a grad program at Duke will give you the chance to get to know Durham on a deeper level.
Let's talk about admission.
Here admission statistics from a recent term, along with Jiri scores and GPA for add minutes in the me a man image programs. It didn't have Ms data but I imagine. It's pretty similar. Duke undergrads post a much higher admission rate than the tuple applicant pool simply because Department snow you.
Admission requirements are posted here all programs were typically require a statement of purpose resume 3 recommendations and unofficial transcripts official. Jiri scores are required use 5156 to send your scores to Duke me Eminem and waive the application fee for all 4 plus ones. Just email me when you start your application. You may ask a department for a fee waiver for Ms but waivers are pretty limited for that program here. A few other tips work experience is of course, not required for any of these programs.
An official transcript is required to enroll but that one time do transcript fee entitles you to as many transcripts as you want finally at least 1 preferably 2 recommendation should be academic in nature from a professor or your advisor or your research lead. Other recommendations can include internship supervisors or they can be from a club activity volunteer opportunity or sports activity.
Again, because the engineering management in Master of engineering are offered by the principle of engineering. The Master of Science by the Graduate School programs have separate applications and varying admission deadlines. The Master of Science takes applications in the fall of your senior year for provisional admission in the spring and the deadline is October 1st.
Master of engineering and master of Engineering Management, except applications and fall or spring and then offer several admission rounds. I suggest you apply in the earliest around you can and take the giri at least a month before applying spring admission deadlines are typically around September for November, 1st and fall deadlines are generally around January 25th March 15th and June 15th June, 1st I'm sorry.
Here's an image of the application system CD start new application is circled you hit that.
And then you'll choose the application for your program to start to choose the correct application for the Master of engineering and master of Engineering Management program choose. The Pratt School of engineering application for the Master of Science program choose the Graduate School application.
In both applications you'll indicate in your 4 plus one in the program information tab for the Master of engineering and master of Engineering management programs. You'll choose the term in which will become a graduate student either 2020 summer term one for seniors or twenty twenty one. Summer term one for juniors. Your application will still be considered for the active term and you'll get your decision, according to the timeline for that term such as Spring 2020, but indicating the summer after graduation ensures that you won't be dual enrolled andouille charged leave me it works.
For the Master of Science program, you are applying for dual enrollment in the spring of your senior year, only but again, you pay tuition for undergrad only during your for undergraduate years.
I'm happy to answer any questions, you have. I'm located and tear on the 2nd floor and you may setup and advise and browsing session with me about emailing susan.brown@duke.edu. I hope this information has been helpful and I hope to see you soon.
Hello thank you for viewing today's web and our our topic is 4 + 1 options and Dukes Engineering Masters programs for Bachelor Science and engineering candidates in the private school of engineering.
I'm Susan Brown in a service the admissions advisor for Duke. Undergraduates interested in Pratt's 4 + 1 programs.
First, let's talk about the Masters programs that are available within Pratt. This is a pretty busy chart and I'll dive deeper into each of these but I wanted to give an overview. First, the Master of Science is a traditional engineering degree that includes 10 courses in bio medical engineering civil and environmental engineering, electrical and computer engineering and mechanical engineering and materials science. Bothies is an non thesis options are available in some Department offer project options as well.

The very same courses in math students take in a variety of disciplines. They divide it up a little bit differently, though the options are by medical engineering. Civil engineering computational mechanics in scientific computing electrical and Peter Engineering Environmental Engineering Mechanical engineering materials science and engineering photonics an optical Sciences.
Risk engineering and a new track in financial technology or fintech.
An internship is required as well.
The Ms program is a good option. If you have a deep interest in research. Whether you seek a career in a research environment or additional preparation for doctoral program. Many Ms students go on to pH D programs. But others may work in industry and industry late in areas like technology development or product design. Founders innovators track, which is designed for students looking to be the next big entrepreneur. Dr new products in the existing organization founder students identify problems develop solutions build prototypes and create startup strategy and select students make pitch to investors as part of the founders.
An internship is required and so is Arrestment wrote breast seminar and workshop series. Seminars feature speakers who unreinforced professional development themes and precise lifelong learning and encourage student development.
These systems provide students, the opportunity to interact with business leaders managers. Engineers entrepreneurs another business and engineering. Experts workshops focus on themes every semester like self awareness global awareness leadership in collaboration or communication.
Engineering management can be collated in one year by taking 4 courses in each of two semesters. The technology track allows you to develop *** Tech products and services using tools such as machine learning Blockchain and quantitative financial analysis. All the technology management. Track prepares you to lead vendtek teams and projects do course work in areas such as product management.
Customer driven innovation in the evolving regulatory landscape.
Students typically take 3 semesters to complete this program and they complete the summer internship between years one and 2.
This program is also run by the Prep School of engineering.
Here's the chart again, so you can see how the degrees compare.
Let's dive into what makes a student eligible for 4 plus. One typically Duke. Undergraduates have free course openings in their senior year through AP credit summer school or overloading you might have one free opening in each semester over senior year or you may have 2 openings in spring semester only as these examples show.
4 + 1 students use those open course lots to take graduate engineering courses that map to the graduate degree. They want and then use those grad courses to satisfied quart graduate degree requirements, lessening the time to degree to typically just one more year at Duke.
How many open slots do you need to make 4 plus one work?
Master science, 4 + 1 works only if you have 2 open course lots in spring semester of your senior year.
Engineering management 4 + 1 works best if you have between one and 4 open slots in your senior year fall or spring semester.
Master of engineering works best if you have between 2:00 and 4:00 open slots in your junior or senior year why the difference? The Master of Engineering Management and the Master of engineering are run by Pratt School of engineering and therefore plus. One was designed with maximum student flexibility. You may only apply for MS-4 plus one in the fall of your senior year for provisional admission in the spring of your senior year. Students are matriculate eed that is a fancy word for formally enrolled in the spring of senior year and your dual enrolled as both an undergrad Anna graduate student for that semester.
You may apply for engineering management or the Master of engineering in the spring of your junior year for admission involve your senior year.
Fall of your senior year for admission for spring in spring. Other junior senior year were spring for senior year for admission and follow your 5th year.
You're matriculate eed in summer term. One of your 5th here and you remain an undergraduate only for all for undergraduate years you're never dual enrolled.
For any of these 4 + 1 programs. You play undergraduate tuition for 4 years and then pay grad tuition in the 5th year only.
For a Mass the time to apply is rigid and that makes it simple for me, Eminem and flexibility leads to confusion. My tips are if you want to take courses under EGR in GMT or Meng. You need to apply for admission before the deadline for the term in which you want to take the classes. These timelines, you select term return one in your 5th year for your admission term that's determine which will become.
And like to talk about how the grad courses, you take as an undergrad are used for Masters programs for the Master of Science only courses taken in the spring of your senior year and as part of your graduate transcript. Remember your dual enrolled will count toward the Ms degree this is a rigid so neat and clean you have an undergraduate record and a graduate record and as long as you register for courses in the right record this system works.
For Engineering Management, the Master of engineering. It's a bit more complicated. HERMGMT and me, and jie or grad only designated courses. So you may take those only after you're admitted to the engineering management or master of Engineering program, with information number because undergrads can take graduate courses and BMECECE and memes. You may take Department of course, is anytime during your undergraduate program. But there's a caveat that I'll get to in a minute.
He transferred those grad courses to me, Amore image programs. Once you're BSE is complete, usually in the fall of your 5th year. Here's the caveat graduate courses can't be used for any part of your undergraduate record if you want to transfer them to your engineering management or master of engineering record courses may only count towards 1 degree.
Let's go over that again graduate courses can't be used for any part of your undergraduate record if you want to transfer them to your engineering management or master of engineering record courses may only count towards 1 degree. That means that in order to move graduate courses into your graduate record. The graduate courses cannot count for your major your second major minor certificate or any of the 34 credits required to completely undergraduate degree. Since 2014, four plus ones are joined a bunch of great companies in the pie chart breaks down industry outcomes.
Master students also benefit from phenomenal student student support.
This starts with the Department specific Masters coordinator and includes the career team. We talked about before the graduate communications and intercultural programs team who provide opportunities to develop communication skills in writing or presentations as well as language services for international students.

Let's assess admission stats here. Statistics from recent term, along with Jerry scores and GPA for add Metsa Nimium, an image program so it didn't have Ms data but I imagine. It's pretty similar. Again, because Engineering Management Master of engineering or offered by the practical of engineering in the Ms by the grad school. Here's an image of the application system. You click on start new application.
And then choose the correct application.
For the Master of engineering and master of Engineering Management Choose. The Pratt School of engineering application for the Master of Science program choose the Graduate School application.
In both applications will indicate your 4 plus one in the program information tab for the Master of engineering in the Master of Engineering management programs choose the term in which will become a graduate student either 2020 summer term one for seniors or twenty twenty one. Summer term one for juniors your application will still be considered for the active term and you'll get your decision, according to the timeline for that term such as Spring 2020, but indicating this summer after graduation ensures that you won't be dual enrolled and you won't get double tuition bills.
For the Master of Science program, you're applying for dual enrollment in the spring of your senior year only.
I am happy to answer any questions that you have. I'm located in tear on the 2nd floor and you can set up an advising session by emailing me at Susan Dot. Brown at Duke Dot. EDI hope that this information is not helpful and I hope to see you soon.
Hello thank you for viewing today's webinar on 4 plus. One options for BSc candidates in Dukes Engineering Masters program.
I'm Susan Brown and I work as the assistant director of admissions in the Pratt School of Engineering's graduate programs and then the four plus one adviser for Duke Undergrads.
I'd like to go over the programs. We offer first. The Master of Science is probably the one that you know the the best. It's 10 courses in an area of knowledge at Dukes engineering programs like bio medical civil and environmental electrical computer mechanical material science. They have a thesis or non thesis option. This is a great option. If you want to do research. But some department's do offer a project option 10 courses can be done usually in 3. Semesters 3 or 4 semesters.
The Master of Engineering Management was started at Duke in 1997 and it's grown a lot since then. There, 4 core classes in marketing finance management and IP law and then students can take electives in the four areas of knowledge in dupes. Other programs in engineering, but more often than not those students choose to take electives in engineering management in areas like customer experience in product design data analytics and machine learning operations and supply chain management.
Product management technology development and commercialization in a new technology. Founders innovators track an internship is required in this program and also a seminar in Workshop Series 2 semesters of that.
It's usually completed in 2. Semesters will talk a little bit about that later.
The Master of engineering started here at Duke in 2010 and I guess you could say it's kind of a hybrid of the other two there are 10 courses total 2 core courses and business fundamentals and management and 8 courses in an engineering discipline and they chose to split these up a little bit differently than they did in the Master of Science. So you can major in bio medical engineering. Civil engineering computational mechanics in scientific computing electrical and computer engineering, environmental engineering.
Mechanical engineering material science and engineering photonics, an optical Sciences risk engineering in a new financial technology or fintech program. An internship is required of this one as well, and it usually takes about 3 semesters, or some students will do it in 4.
Let's talk a little bit more about the master science as I said, before 3 to 4. Semesters and really a base a good basis. If you'd like to go into a research position or you think you might want to enter a doctoral program. Technical coursework attend classes in a thesis or project, sometimes a course project option, but really this is a good option. If you'd like to do research or you'd like to do 10 courses in a discipline with no business whatsoever.
The Master of Engineering Management is an 8 course program and the interesting thing about this one is that you can complete it in a year without being A4 Plus. One is for classes in each of two semesters for core management courses marketing finance intellectual property an business law and management and then electives in those areas, I mentioned before 2. Semesters of seminar and workshop and an internship report and presentation. This is the only program of Dukes graduate programs in engineering.
That let's you pay back credit so any classes you take as an undergrad and reduce the number. You need to take in your 5th year will also reduce the amount of tuition that you pay in that 5th year, so that's kind of nice.
The Master of Engineering is typically A3 semester to 4 semester industry focus degree. It has 2 core industry prep courses business fundamentals in management mix of Department disciplinary or cross disciplinary requirements. It varies by Department and then technical electives in a concentration area and that varies with Department as well, and this also requires an internship or project.
I'd like to go over this chart again. Just leave it here for a little while so you can see the differences between the programs.
So what makes a student eligible for 4 + 1.
Pratt undergrads typically come to Duke with AP credit or they'll take summer school or though overload in a semester and many of them will end up with open course lots. An example here. I have one slot in both the fall and Spring Semesters of students senior year.
And then I have 2 other thoughts in spring semester of a student senior year in these examples, so that's how it happens. The one caveat. I'd like to keep in mind is that those slots have to be free and clear you don't need them for anything in your undergraduate record.
How many slots do you need to make 4 plus one work?
For the Master of Science, 4 + 1 works only if you have 2 open course lots in spring semester of senior year. Engineering management works best if you have between one and 4 open course lots in your senior year fall or spring.
An image is the most flexible of all 4 + 1 works best if you have between 2:00 and 4:00 open course lots in your junior or a senior here.
When should you apply to these programs, the Master of Science is run by the Graduate School and they have a much more rigid structure that actually. I really like for a lot of reasons. They have you apply for dual admission provisional admission in the fall of your senior year for provisional admission spring of your senior year so in the spring of your senior you are dual enrolled as an undergrad and graduate you have an undergrad book bag and a graduate book bag and you take undergrad classes in your undergraduate book bag and graduate courses in your graduate book bag.
You then when you graduate your undergrad book bag goes away and your grad bookbag continues into your 5th year and you continue and complete the rest of the course programs that 8 other courses in just one year. The one thing I'd like students to note about this is if you're interested in the research version of the Master Science. It can be difficult to complete that in just one year. So you normally have to have something you already started or it may take you a little bit longer to finish up the research component of the Master of Science.
Engineering Management Head Master of engineering are owned by the practical of engineering and they offer a lot of flexibility. But I think that can lead to a lot of confusion so.
Basically, I think the best thing to do for Engineering Management. You can apply in spring of your junior year for admission followed your senior here. Follow your senior year for admission in spring of your senior year spring of senior year for admission and fall of your 5th year. I think the best thing to do is apply for admission for the term in which you want to take the classes so if you want to take each ERMGMT classes in the fall of your senior year, you're going to live in the spring of junior for admission in that fall term.
The key there is that you when you take those classes. You have to have a permission number and you can only get them. If you are admitted some other students, like to have time to bring up their GPA. Maybe they want a few more semesters to bring that up so they might apply later they might take classes before they get to their senior year or their fit. Here they can take any Pratt Engineering class, you could take electives in.
Five medical engineering right, but you couldn't take EGRMGMT core classes there's or grad only so you could take the classes before you go and apply later if you want to put forth a stronger application.
And the same is true of the Master of engineering if you want to take those image core classes. You're going to want to apply for the term in which we're going to take the classes. But if you want time to bring up your GPA or maybe you're juggling a job search. You can apply later. If you want the key here is that you remain an undergrad for all 4 years for all of these programs well your dual enrolled for the master science, but the key is you're paying undergrad tuition for all 4 years.
And paying graduation only in your 5th year, you're not double paying and that's a good thing.
So how are grad courses use taken as undergrad use for Masters program master science so simple only courses taken in the spring of your senior year and part of your grad transcript are counted toward the Master of Science degree perfect engineering management and master of Engineering, a little bit more loose. I guess after admission with an MEM image program after admission to the program with the permission number. You can take them pretty much anytime during your undergrad program.
But basically in your junior or senior year. I would think engineering management your senior year master of engineering junior or senior year. The GPA for those courses remain on your undergrad record typically you can take two courses with A4 course maximum and here's the note grad courses cannot be used for undergrad record. If you want to transfer them to your mom or image record courses may only count towards 1 degree.
I like to say that again grad courses can't be used for undergrad record if you want to transfer them to your me. Amore image record courses made only count or one degree so that means that if you'd like to transfer glad grad classes that you take us an undergrad grad grad classes cannot count for your major your second major your minor any certificate or the 34 credits required to complete the undergraduate degree.
The courses you plan to transfer must be used only for transfer to the grad program.
I'd like to talk a little bit about the karere resources. You have 'em as a master student at do we have a phenomenal career team? Who helps with all of these items they 1 on one coaching the events. The meetings to help with resume review and mock interviewing on campus recruiting events assessment tools. You'll continue to use career connections. They set up networking events with album NI and the great thing about master students is that they have.
They have access to career support for several years after graduation, so you might not. You might use them for that job that first job after you graduate from Duke 4, plus one, but maybe also the job after.
Here is a TinyURL for you to go look at our Duke data visualization tool for engineering. Masters, a word of caution. This does not work well on a Phone. I was just to use a computer or large tablet. This will allow you to toggle between programs department's years of graduation citizenship. You can search in the search box for companies or position titles. You can click on a state to see how many alumni, said they got jobs there.
There's a worldwide version you can look at that to 5 years of data. It's a great tool. It's a good option to look at this, if you're not quite sure which program you want to go in to take a look and see where people go. I should have noted this earlier, but Master of Science typically sends about 40% of its students to a PhD program.
And the rest of them and many me the great majority of me a man image students go into industry.
Here's a little information about 4 plus. One specific employment since 2014, four plus ones have joined a lot of great companies and there's a chart here to kind of show the breakdown. It's a kind of a nice chart. They go into a lot of different areas.
I want to talk a little bit about the student support you get as a master student that starts with your Department of Masters Coordinator, who is your son million stars within the Department. The career services team. We talked about before the graduate communication is in their cultural programmes team that can help you with presentations and communication and that kind of thing. They also offer language services. A comprehensive orientation with a tour that you could likely lead for around the campus a longer international student welcome.
Which is great for international students a lot of activities and social events and academic resources?
And you already have a great network at Duke, but a Masters program will expand that network.
And you'll get the chance to build lifetime friendships from getting together on the enota hanging out with a blue devil to going to a basketball game or pumpkin carving on the quad master students really fully immerse themselves in life at Duke and I think that's great, so I think that it's a great opportunity for 4, plus ones to continue that kind of activity here.
Anne if you've only lived on campus while an undergrad note that grad students live off campus and you will get to know Durham on a much deeper level. It's a fantastic town.
Talk about admission statistics so here are the admission statistics for recent term for Engineering Management Master of engineering and Master of Science and admitted Jiri scores for Master of engineering and master of Engineering Management. I couldn't get Ms. But I imagine. It's pretty similar. I've given you a range of admitted GPA some department's have requirements. Some don't. If you have any concerns about your GPA you're welcome to come. Talk to me. We can craft a plan for you to put forward your best application.
But you know, there's not a minimum test score requirement. This can give you a good idea of what they're expecting to see on the test.
Here application requirements. There are separate applications for Engineering Management in Master of engineering against Master of Science. They are owned by the Pratt School of Engineering Master Science is owned by the Graduate School, so there are separate applications. But they both require a statement of purpose resume 3 letters of recommendation unofficial transcripts and official. Jiri scores send your scores to institution code 5156 and application fee, which I will wave for master.
Engineering management and master of engineering students if you are applying to the Ms you can petition a department for a fee waiver. But they are limited. A word on letters of recommendation if you are still in undergrad. At least 1 and probably preferably two of your recommendation should be academic in nature.
As well as noting that work experience is not required an you need an official transcript to enroll.
Here are links to the application system. They share an application system. This year first year we're really excited. But here's information on applying to those programs deadlines. They have varying deadlines because they are owned by different schools faster of science is October, 1st of your senior year for provisional admission in the spring any of you are seniors, and you are interested in applying October 1st is the date that you would want to get that in for Master of engineering and Astro Engineering Management.
Spring has 2 rounds with dates generally around September, 1st and November, 1st 3 rounds in the fall. January 15th March 15th and June 1st. I recommend that you apply for in the earliest round for whatever term you want.
Here's a picture of the application, you will click on start new application. It circled here and then you're going to choose the correct application for image and MEM for Master of engineering and engineering management. You're going to choose the Pratt School of engineering application for master science, you're going to use the Graduate School application.
And in both applications will indicate that you are 4 plus one in the program information tab so notice here that in the Master of Science. You're applying for spring entry, only, but an image an MP you are applying for summer term one of your 5th year.
This little quirky we found in this system that it was auto matriculate ING people and they were getting double billed that was bad news. So now we have you apply your anticipated admit term will be summer term. One of the 5th year so for seniors. That's going to be summer term. One twenty twenty for juniors will be summer term. One twenty twenty one, but you're going to apply in the deadlines for the term that you see so for example, Spring 2020. You would follow those deadlines and get a response.
In that timeline, but you won't be matriculate. Eed fancy word for an old until summer term one of the appropriate year.
